This is going to show my age... I got started with the Atari 2600 - but the system that really propelled me into gaming was the good old Commodore 64 and Silent Service, along with Airborne Ranger.

Wolfenstein 3D, Doom 1&2, Quake and Quake III Arena were the games i played in the 1990s untill i found the Half-Life mod "War in europe" ca year 2000.
Played that for a few months untill i discovered the mod Day of Defeat.

DoD was my primary game for several years, and I even had a clan called "Deutsche Landsers", in which I took my first steps in trying to implement rank structure etc, but it was very juvenile and in no way represented anything called a realism unit. Remember, this was 2001.

After finding out about Red Orchestra in 2004, I quickly bought UT2004 and downloaded the mod. I remember being in shock of the first impressions and a feeling of this is what I have been looking for. Started searching the RO-forums for a unit to join and found a guy called Wolfrum who was the leader of a thing he called "Realism-Clan". The Großdeutschland unit. We started talking and immediatly felt we wanted the same thing and I joined the same day. I was so impressed of the way he had the unit set up, the forum with avatars and signatures, how we adressed each other with ranks, german names, awards etc. I couldnt even believe there was such a thing as "we only play the german side. If you want to be a commie, go somewhere else". I loved it.

Together him and I coined the term "Virtual Re-enactment", changed the unit impression to 1.SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler. We got ALOT of hatemails, flak etc for this decision, but that only strengthened us. We got ridiculed, called neo-nazis etc. The gaming community was not ready, but we didnt give a fuck. We were the LSSAH. Porsche came into the unit, also Weiss (except either him or me can remember his old LSSAH name unfortunatly), and we had our own Mod for the mod itself, called the LSSAHmod, which included SS-models/skins of camo smocks, dot44 and even implemented weapon jamming. We really did everything the way we wanted it, and didnt care what other people thought.

After a few years my good friend Wolfrum died (bless him) in 2010, and after a brief break from gaming (got my first kid in 2009) I found the 2.SS unit for Darkest Hour. These guys were the shit, and had taken the 1.SS unit legacy and perfected it, so I blended right in. Played with those guys (including Bewerber Strassel, Sturmmann Porsche and Ernst Hoffmann) for a few years until I left because Red Orchestra 2 (IMO the shittiest game ive ever played) came out, and I was extremly busy with setting up a new life after a divorce, custody battle, and work overload.

For the last few years ive played Darkest Hour, Red Orchestra, the Total War Series on and off by my self, untill Porsche contacted me in August 2018 telling me about this unit and Post Scriptum, signed up right away and intend to stay for many years to come.

I believe I hung around GD, 1st and 2nd SS, I'm pretty sure I was in GD, but then branched out to another unit, 20th or 21st Panzergrenadiers, a non-SS unit.I remember the website played Die Fahne Hoch though lol. I can't recall exactly, but it was members largely from GD, then merged into LSSAH after it fell apart???. I remember a Reinhardt and many hours on teamspeak, and RO long before DH. It's very hard to remember all this after so much time and real life gone bye, but I am certain I remember Wolfrum, his health problems were not kept secret as I recall, and he had relationships with many realism units, there was another much younger guy that was wheelchair bound and ardent anticommie that was around wolfrum, may have been LSSAH? iirc. I do remember having a conversation about german shepherds as someone (wulf?) had a few. I believe my surname was Lainer for some of these realism units, also Lindermann or something.

The book Forgotten Soldier got me interested in the german side of things, and I purchased red orchestra at a big chain store when I saw the cover and saw you could actually play as axis. Fairly certain I found GD soon after because I recognized the unit from the book.
